Look and feel

What is Motorola doing? They’re launching such amazing phones one after the other. Just 15-10 days ago, the G84 was launched. It was probably the best premium looking phone under Rs 20K & the specifications were amazing. Now, they’ve gone one level ahead with the G54 & it’s probably the best smartphone under Rs 15K. In fact, the effective price is Rs 14,500 for the 8GB & 128GB variant. And they’ve added some new features that have never been seen in Motorola phones. For eg, 6000 mAh battery. It’s a crazy phone with the 8GB & 128GB variant.
Build Quality
it has a 6000 mAh battery. It’s not very heavy as you’d expect it. t’s around 195.9g. So yeah, it’s quite light. It’s not above 200g as it’s a 6000 mAh phone. It has flat sides & the in-hand feel is very good. It doesn’t fall down. It feels sturdy. Let’s drop it & see. 1, 2 & 3. Is it heavy? Even if it’s not, it’s absolutely nothing. There’s a Panda Glass protection. There’s a USB Type C port, a 3.5mm jack, a sim card tray on the left & a noise cancelling microphone on the top. And Dolby Atmos is written here. There are Dolby Atmos tuned speakers. There’s a volume rocker on the right side. And then you have a power on off button. If I talk about the sim card tray, then it’s a hybrid sim card So you can use 1 sim card & 1 SD card or 2 sim cards. So there’s expansion storage. That’s nice. It comes in 3 colours. There’s a mint green colour. And there are 2 colours in blue. Midnight Blue & Pearl Blue. This is Pearl Blue. Talking about the design, it has PMMA material so it’s kind of acrylic plastic. But the G84 had vegan leather. We’ve seen it from the outside & it’s impressive from the outside.
Display
Talking about the display, it’s 6.5 inches. I like that size. 6.7 inches is a little big & 6.1 inches is a little small. 6.5 inches is the ideal size. It’s a 6.5 inch IPS LCD 120Hz display with 560 nits brightness. And if you look at the display, it’s a high quality IPS LCD display. Talking about brightness, it’s good enough for indoors. Talking about the bezels, the bezels on the sides are smaller than average. It’s a 90% screen-to-body ratio. And the center punch hole looks decent. Remember, it’s priced under Rs 15K & that’s why it looks good. Even the display is good. Even though it’s not AMOLED, it’s a really good display. Alright, let’s talk about specifications.
Performance
Talking about the processor, it’s India’s first Dimensity 7020 processor. There are many Motorola phones that are India’s first & this is one of them. It’s the first processor & it has a good AnTuTu score of 4,76,000. If I compare it with Dimensity 930, it’s an improved version of the Motorola G73. So this is an improved version of that. And if I talk about Qualcomm SD 695, it gives you a better score. The SD 695 has a score of 4,20,000. So this is better than that. Interestingly, it’s base variant which is priced at Rs 14,500 is 8GB RAM & 128GB storage. And there’s a 12GB RAM & 256GB storage variant. There’s no 12GB RAM & 256GB storage variant under Rs 20K. It’s priced at Rs 18,999 but if you compare it with the effective Rs 1,500 bank offers, you get 12GB RAM & 256GB storage for Rs 17,500. It has LPDDR4X RAM type & UFS 2.2 storage type. So in terms of specifications, it’s definitely worth every penny & more than that. OS UI UIX has a clean Android experience. Android 13 is out of the box. You get a 1 year major update & 3 years security updates. Interestingly, there are a lot of good things. I saw 2-3 games pre-installed. Candy Crush is a popular game & you can uninstall it. But I haven’t seen it yet. There’s not much bloatware but there are 2-3 extra apps & games. You won’t get bloatware, glances & dark patterns while setting it up. And about the OS, you get Moto gestures, personalisation, Moto Secure folder, ThinkShield etc. Gestures work well. Gaming! Again, you don’t expect much but you get good gaming in Rs 14,500. You can play 40FPS games on medium to high settings. Whether it’s COD Mobile or BGMI. And due to being a Dimensity processor, you get a Hyper Engine which helps you in gaming. You get smooth gaming. And we played games for a long time very well. We also did a CPU throttle test just to check. It also showed 82-83% which is very good. Again, it’s good in this price range. Connectivity It’s a 5G processor with 14 5G bands. It supports all bands. It supports Bluetooth 5.3, dual band WiFi, NFC, 4×4 MIMO so you get stable network connectivity. So connectivity options are there. Sensors It has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, face unlock & works very well. Multimedia Display is good, it’s bright with good quality IPS display. And the audio is better than Dolby Atmos. You get stereo speakers so the multimedia experience is good. You get support for Widevine L1. You won’t be able to watch HDR on Netflix but you can do full HD streaming. And you get a 3.5mm jack for the wired headphone
Camera

So that’s there. Camera It’s improving with every phone. You get an OIS camera in Rs 14,500. I think it’s the cheapest OIS camera smartphone. The 50MP primary sensor supports OIS. The secondary sensor supports 8MP ultrawide sensor. Nowadays, ultrawide sensors are available under Rs 20,000. But Motorola has kept it at 2MP. So 50MP OIS plus 8MP. You get a 16MP selfie sensor in the front as well. You get a lot of photos. Yes, there’s a scope of improvement in photos. But still, if you compare it with Motorola phones & other Rs 15,000 phones, it’s definitely very competitive. I’ve given the links to all the photos in the description below. Do check them out if you’re thinking about buying a phone. And the secondary ultrawide sensor isn’t fixed focus, it’s auto focus. So you can take macro photos too. So that’s good. If I talk about the video graphics, it’s FHD 1080p at 30FPS front & back. And if I talk about the features, there’s Pro mode, Night Vision mode, Portrait mode, Slow Motion, Dual Capture mode, Panorama etc. You get all these features in all the standard phones.
Battery
Battery, I don’t think there’s a phone from Motorola which has a 5,000mAh battery. It has a 6,000mAh battery & 33W charging. 0-50% in 33 minutes. It’ll take 1-1.5 hours to charge. But 50% is more than enough as it has a 6,000mAh battery. And remember, Motorola’s OS is very optimised. You can easily use the battery for 2 days in moderate usage. There’s 2 days battery life as it’s a 6Nm processor. So battery life is also great. Again, it’s excellent in battery & battery charging.
Conclusion
Let’s quickly talk about the other small features. SAR value is within limits, FM radio is available, there’s no notification light. It has an IP52 certification. The G84 had an IP54 certification & this has an IP52 certification. So it’s dust & water resistant. Overall, I’m impressed. If it was priced at Rs 16-18K, I’d say it’s a decent phone. If I talk about both the variants, for the price, they’re offering you a lot. And it’s a Motorola phone, so you get a clean UI experience. So all those things are there. It’s definitely one of the best phones under Rs 15K.
